Plugg-Out
Service Design
Service Blueprint
Plugg-out is an award-winning service design project aimed at reducing “vampire power” — the electricity wasted by devices left on standby. The project focused on behavior-changing interactions and feedback loops to make energy conservation effortless and engaging. Developed over 5 months, Plugg-out competed against 150 international teams in the IKEA Service Design Challenge, advanced as one of 8 global finalists, and emerged as the winning proposal.
I contributed to Plugg-out by leading the service experience design, mapping out user journeys, and shaping the interactive feedback mechanisms that encourage energy-conscious habits. My role involved creating prototypes, conducting user testing, and refining touchpoints to ensure the system was intuitive, effective, and capable of driving real behavior change.
01
Identifying the Problem
We explored Vampire Power, recognizing it as a hidden yet significant issue. Our goal was to design a service to raise awareness and reduce this phantom energy consumption
02
Research and Insights
We researched major consumers of Vampire Power and assessed current policies. Engaging with stakeholders, we gathered insights on household behaviors and electricity usage.
03
User-Centric Approach
We created personas and mapped user journeys to understand motivations and pain points. Our focus was on developing user-friendly solutions that encourage positive behavior changes.
04
Ideation and Service Development
Using ideation techniques, we developed and refined our service concept, PluggOut. We validated our ideas through surveys and expert consultations, focusing on smart, sustainable solutions.
